The idea of taking a leap into something new and unknown is always a bit daunting.
I fell down the Substack rabbit hole a few months ago - reading posts from some of my favorite follows, such as The Love List and In Moda Veritas, has been such an enjoyable way to spend a slow weekend morning or evening unwinding after work, but the idea of putting myself out there in a different capacity, potentially more exposed way, made me hesitant to start my own. What would I write about? Would people follow? I’m not a writer? [insert other self doubt]? After a few weeks, I decided to get out of my own head, push the imposter syndrome aside, and just go for it.
So here we are, and I’m so, so glad you’re here.
I’ve had my instagram and blog since 2019. I started it as a creative outlet when we initially moved from Houston to DC and I didn’t know what to do with having free time. I worked almost nonstop in Houston, weekends included, and once we moved to DC, I found myself with a more predictable 9-5 schedule. I’ve never done well with having free time, (I think I get that from my mom - love her to pieces, but she doesn’t know how to just relax) so I started to fill my free time with creating content. During the height of the pandemic, it gave structure to my days and a way to connect with others. Over the last year, work and life has picked back up to its normal pace…and it feels more busy than before. My “normal job” (I work as a Physician Assistant in clinical research/infectious disease) has become significantly more busy in the last 12 months. So why add something else, like Substack, on to my plate?
Amidst all the busy, I’m hoping this space will be one that I can show up and share freely (outfits, thoughts, finds, etc).
I’m hoping to create a community here that allows me to pen more of my thoughts. 9 out of 10 times, I’m overthinking things- so perhaps less of that and more vulnerability? You can still expect all the typical fashion and lifestyle finds, what I’m wearing, what I’m adding to my wishlist, how and why I’m styling things. I also love that Substack offers the chat feature so that you can post questions and chat with other followers - what an incredible resource for all!
This is a free subscription and I have no plans to ever change that.
I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to post on here. Definitely shooting for at least once a week. My plan is to just start posting, figure out my bandwidth, and poll you to get feedback on the frequency of posts you are interested in reading - hopefully together we can figure out a sweet spot!
Thank YOU for being here. I always love hearing from you, so if you have any feedback or requests for future Substacks - let me know in the comment section!
Xx, Kel
Glad to see you on here! Looking forward to following along
Welcome to Substack!
